The Lifesavers Foundation
ABOUT US
A collaborative approach to support and fundraising
The Lifesavers Foundation is an independent registered charity CC53628, established solely with the purpose of fundraising and harnessing community support for surf life saving clubs. The Foundation is independent of SLSNZ and its member clubs. A memorandum of understanding between the Foundation and SLSNZ enables joint work on agreed initiatives. A further agreement permits the Foundation to fundraise on behalf of Surf Life Saving Northern Region. The Foundation may at the trustees’ discretion and in accordance with the agreements in place with SLSNZ and SLSNR, fundraise generally for the benefit of all 74 clubs across NZ, or for groups of clubs, or for the needs of specific clubs.
OUR TRUSTEES
Founding Trustee | Chair
Tim Jago
Tim’s contribution to surf life saving spans 35+ years at club, regional and national levels. Until recently the President of NZ’s busiest lifeguard service at Muriwai, and a past CEO and Chair of Surf Life Saving Northern Region, Tim deeply understands the funding and resource requirements of clubs, and how it’s vital that new and innovative ways are put in place to ensure the financial sustainability of this essential community based rescue service.
Founding Trustee
Malcolm Beattie OBE
Still actively patrolling at Sunset Beach, Port Waikato, Malcolm is a highly experienced leader and administrator across all facets of charitable community based organisations. He is currently the President of Surf Life Saving Northern Region. He brings to the Foundation his global experience in sponsorship and sports marketing, innovative fundraising and commercial activities for not-for-profits, and extensive business networks.
Trustee
Dr Logan Bannister
Logan lives on the outskirts of Tauranga and is Head of Student Support at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology. Her strong professional and social networks and deep understanding of how to work in alignment with indigenous communities is important to the trustee mix as the Foundation works with at-risk groups to encourage them to contribute to the funding of services they directly benefit from.
Trustee
Gary Gotlieb
Gary is a long-standing member of the Whangamata club so understands well the funding environment clubs must work in, but to many he will be better known for his high profile work as a criminal barrister, elected roles at the helm of the Auckland District Law Society and NZ Criminal Bar Association, and his public campaigning to win the restoration of Auckland’s historic Tepid Baths.
